SITUATION
According to the USDA, nearly 34 million people, including 9 million children, in the United States are food insecure. In Fairfax County alone, there are an estimated 75,000 food insecure residents. As the holiday season approaches, the OGS team wants to ensure that our communities are able to enjoy festive Thanksgiving meals with loved ones, while also facilitating a fun and active opportunity for emerging leaders to engage in bettering our communities.
Mission
In light of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the OGS team will host a 5 v 5 soccer tournament, with all proceeds going towards supporting food security within our communities. All proceeds will be donated to our partner organization, Food & Friends, and the OGS team will help prepare and home-deliver thousands of full Thanksgiving meals to individuals throughout D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. We've partnered with Footy Access, a Soccer Media Company that enables young players with a platform to be recognized and thrive.
