Los Angeles, California has one of the highest homeless populations in the country with roughly 60,000 homeless individuals within the city’s streets. California is also known to have the highest estimated number of homeless veterans with over 4,000 of our nation’s veterans residing in the LA area. The cold Winter weather in tandem with the growing risk of COVID-19 makes homeless participants an extremely vulnerable population that needs our help. With limited resources, the homeless veterans in Los Angeles are left with little possible action.
With our team based in the Los Angeles and Orange County area, Operation Golden Shield will provide practical supplies to the homeless Veteran population in our community. Known as "Winter Survival Kits,” our OGS team will provide individuals with useful items such as fleeces, gloves, hygiene kits, and other necessities. Our goal is to assist the homeless veterans by giving them a means to stay warm and safe during the colder months.
The Operation Golden Shield Los Angeles Committee was able to pack and deliver 50 Winter Survival Kits to the West LA VA Hospital. Our Winter Survival Kits were then delivered to homeless veterans in the streets and to those who reside in the VA’s transitional housing units.
